Applewhite Picnic Area

This is a large family-friendly picnic area located in the community of Lytle Creek, which can accommodate up to 184 vehicles. Once filled, this site will close on busy summer weekends.

There are times of year where the forest does not allow any wood fires, charcoal BBQs, or charcoal stoves. Please call the Lytle Creek Ranger Station for current fire restrictions or check the Current Fire Restrictions section of this website. Use of propane or gas appliances are allowed with a valid CA campfire permit.


Applewhite Campground is located across the street for overnight camping use.

Current Conditions
3/15/2025, wood/charcoal fires or barbecues are allowed in Forest Service provided rings/grills. Gas/Propane appliances are permitted with a valid CA Campfire permit. NOT PERMITTED: ground fires or building of rock-fire-rings anywhere on Southern CA Forests.

General Information

  • Monday thru Friday : 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
  • Weekends and Federal Holidays: 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

  • No ground fires or building of rock-fire-rings permitted anywhere on Southern California Forests!
  • No wood fires, charcoal bbqs, or charcoal stove allowed near the creek itself
  • No loud music or generators [36 CFR 261.10(I)]
  • Dogs MUST be on a leash not longer than six feet, or otherwise under physical restrictive control... [36 CFR 261.16(j)]
  • Pack It In/Pack It Out. Pack out what you pack in and Leave no Trace!Please pitch in and clean up your site after your picnic - trash cans are provided.

Adventrue Pass

A Recreation Pass is required, passed honored are the local Adventure Passes (Daily or Annual) and the America the Beautiful Interagency Passes. For more information, please visit our recreation pass page.

Directions

Located on Lytle Creek Road north of Interstate 15, use Sierra Exit. Once on Lytle Creek Road, travel about 7.5 miles. You will pass the Lytle Creek Ranger Station, continue traveling north down the road then the Picnic area will be on the left hand side.
