Sequoia National Forest Christmas Tree Permits

With the holiday season officially underway, Sequoia National Forest announces availability of Christmas tree permits and pre-cut Christmas trees, while supplies last. Location and dates are provided below

Kern River Ranger District

Starting November 24 – A limited number of Christmas tree cutting permits will be available for purchase online through Recreation.gov and in person at the Kern River Ranger District Office. The permit allows the holder to cut one Christmas tree from the designated area on the attached map. The cost for 2025 is $10 per tree, limited to one per household, and will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis. Permits are good through December 25, 2025.

Hume Lake Ranger District

Starting December 2 – A limited number of pre-cut Christmas trees will be available for purchase in person only at the Hume Lake Ranger District Office. The cost is $10 per tree, limited to one per household, and will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis. Please have someone capable of loading your tree into your vehicle and bring tie-downs for safe transportation home. Forest Service personnel on site are not able to help load Christmas trees.

Western Divide Ranger District

Starting December 2 – A limited number of pre-cut Christmas Trees available for purchase in person only at the Western Divide Ranger District Office. The cost for 2025 is $10 per tree, limited to one per household, and will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis.

On December 6 – The Western Divide Ranger District Office will host an open house to allow purchases of pre-cut Christmas trees, while supplies last.

Please have someone capable of loading your tree into your vehicle and bring tie-downs for safe transportation home. Forest Service personnel on site are not able to help load Christmas trees.

Fourth Grade, Every Kid Outdoors (EKO) Passes:

Fourth Grade students with a valid 4th grade Every Kid Outdoors (EKO) pass or voucher can get a free Christmas tree permit to enjoy with their family, while supplies last. EKO vouchers can be acquired by visiting https://everykidoutdoors.gov, completing the application process, printing the voucher and bringing it with you. If your child receives a voucher from school, bring it to exchange for an EKO pass. Students utilizing the EKO program must be present when picking up their tree, limited to one per household.

Local district offices can answer questions regarding Christmas tree cutting, current conditions, and roads. All offices will be closed Thursday, Nov. 27 for the Thanksgiving holiday.
