Sequoia National Forest Seeks Public Input on Post-Fire Project
KERNVILLE, Calif., April 29, 2025—
The Sequoia National Forest welcomes public input on the proposed Borel Fire Salvage project. Public comments will be accepted from April 29 to May 19 through the project webpage or mail. The project focuses on supporting public safety, watershed health, and community livelihoods. The 2024 Borel Fire burned 59,288 acres, killing and damaging many trees. Over time, dead and dying trees become unsafe, lose economic value, and will eventually fall to become fuel for a future wildfire. The proposed activities, under a Categorical Exclusion, aim to reduce these risks with: • Removal of fire-impacted trees from approximately 415 acres of high-severity burned land, including roadside hazard trees. • Reforestation treatments in approximately 400 acres. To learn more about the project, join us at a public meeting on May 6 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the Kernville District Office, 11380 Kernville Road, Kernville, CA 93238 or online via Microsoft Teams. Dial-in option also available: 323-886-7051, ID: 683474871#. Meant to be an informational session only, official public comments must be submitted via the process below. To review the proposed action and a project map, visit the project webpage.
Please submit comments via email: comments-pacificsouthwest-sequoia@usda.gov. Commenters' names and contact information will become part of the public record. Anonymous comments are accepted, but comments posted after the close of comment period may not be able to be given full consideration. Please submit comments by 11:59 p.m. on May 19, 2025. For more information on this project, please contact Brian Block at brian.block@usda.gov or call 760-376-3781, ext. 670.
