Swan Lake Kitchen Group Campsite
Originally constructed in 1936 by the Civilian Conservation Corps to serve crew members, and historically preserved in 2009 and 2010, this open air kitchen has retained its historical character. The site is located in a mixed pine forest at the north end of Swan Lake Campground along the northeast shoreline. There are two tables under the shelter and four large tables outside of the shelter for groups to use. The group site has a single outhouse, garbage service, two water hydrants, a large flat meadow area for tents, a small swim beach, a swim dock, and a large paved parking area with a gate on the access road. A combination is required to open the gate. Parking for large RVs is limited and the turnaround space at the site is also limited. The parking area is located well above the kitchen shelter and tent meadow, which are accessed via a long series of stairs. This site is not easily accessed by the mobility impaired. The outhouse is located at the top of the stairs adjacent to the parking area. The Swan Lake Loop Trail passes through the group site meadow and near the kitchen shelter. Users of the group site should expect trail users to pass through the site on a regular basis during the summer months.
