There are many different maps and online mapping tools offering information. Consider what you would like to do to based what type of map or application you might need. Visitor maps and publications are available in-person at forest offices

Safety Reminder: Never count on your cell phone map as the only navigation device out in the forest, especially in the backcountry. 

Digital Maps & Tools

Forest Service Digital Maps

To download maps of any forest by quadrangle, you can use this database. For this forest, use the search bar in the upper left to search for the ‘Malheur National Forest’. Clicking on each section will allow you to download a .pdf of that quadrangle or a dataset. These maps are suitable for printing or for use on many GPS applications.

US Geological Survey 

The USGS provides mapping tools, databases, and publications for the entire country. Download, buy, or print classic and updated topographic maps here.

Mobile Friendly Maps

Download available forest maps to your mobile device via the Avenza app. The Avenza free mobile app makes it easy to download forest maps onto your mobile device. Avenza maps are georeferenced so that you can find your location on the downloaded map, even without WiFi or network connectivity. The GPS on your mobile device can use your location to pinpoint your location on the map. Find a map.
