Recreation Enhancement Act Highlights
The Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act (REA), signed into law in 2004, authorizes the Secretaries of the Interior and Agriculture to establish, modify, change, collect and retain recreation fees at Federal recreation lands and waters as provided for in the Act. The Act requires at least 80% of the fees to stay on the forests and grasslands where they were collected and reinvest that money to support local site operations and maintenance.
