Idlewild Loop Trail

Current Conditions
Visitors should be prepared for rapidly changing weather conditions. Please remember that if you pack it in, please pack it out with you.

This is a short, easy hike that is great for kids, or for a break from traveling US Highway 395. Users can catch glimpses of this region's volcanic past as the trail runs along boulders and ancient ash-flows of welded tuff. This trail weaves through stands of old growth ponderosa pines, that are home to rare white-headed woodpeckers. Before exiting the trail make sure to look for remnants of a Civilian Conservation Corps era fence, but please do not disturb. No stock or OHV are allowed on the trail.
