Olympic National Forest Summer 2025 Operations

Olympia, WA, April 30, 2025— Visitors to the Olympic National Forest should be aware of summer operations including office hours, campground opening dates, and construction projects occurring this summer. Those planning to visit Olympic National Park as well should make sure to review park operations and regulations as they differ from the national forest.  

Visitor Information:

Effective April 21st all offices have transitioned to a primarily cashless system. Operating hours are currently in place until September 30th, 2025. 

  • Supervisor’s Office, 1835 Black Lake Blvd SW Olympia, WA 98512
    • Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
  • Quilcene Office, 295142 Highway 101 S. Quilcene, WA 98376
    • Tuesday, Wednesday, 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
  • Forks Office, 437 Tillicum Lane Forks, WA 98331
    • Open on the third Tuesday of the month, 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
  • Quinault Office, 353 South Shore Road Quinault, WA 98575
    • Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Campgrounds: Below are the anticipated opening dates for “first come-first serve” campgrounds. Reservations for other campgrounds must be made at www.recreation.gov.

Boat Launches:

  • The boat launch at Willaby Campground will open April 28th.  
    • Visitors are reminded that Lake Quinault is managed by the Quinault Indian Nation. Permits can be purchased at the Rain Forest Resort and Quinault Mercantile; both located along South Shore Rd.
  • All other boat launches will open when campgrounds open as noted above.

Roads:

Multiple road projects and maintenance are planned to occur this summer. The following are projected activities. Drivers on the forest should always be prudent and have high awareness. 

  • Gates:
    • On May 1, 2025, seasonal gates on the south part of the forest will open. This includes gates on the 2451 road in the North Fork Skokomish River watershed; on the 2354, 2353, and 2361 roads in the South Fork Skokomish River watershed; and on the 2294 and 2270 roads in the Wynoochee River watershed.
  • Construction Projects:
    • NFSR 2340-200 Gibbons Creek Major Culvert Replacement – This road will be closed for approximately 30 days between July 15th and September 30th.
    • NFSR 2870-000 Dungeness Road Aggregate Placement – This project will be placing several inches of aggregate on the first 15 miles of the road, intermittent closures may happen on weekdays.  
  • Road Maintenance:
    • Road maintenance will be happening throughout the forest this summer, higher than normal activities will be occurring in the northeast portion of the forest and around Wynoochee Lake.
  • Timber Haul:
    • Timber hauling will occur across the forest. Expect logging trucks especially in these areas: Queets (NFSR 2100), Wynoochee (NFSR 2200), and Skokomish River (NFSR 2300).
