Satsop Center Campground available for reservations; under new concessionaire

Release Date: August 1st, 2025

OLYMPIA, Wash., — The Satsop Center Campground is now available for reservations on recreation.gov. Located southeast of Wynoochee Lake 36 miles north of Montesano, Wash. the Satsop Center area was temporarily closed in 2024 to complete deferred maintenance, decommissioning, and remediation work.

In early 2025 the Olympic National Forest completed a requested expression of interest to gather creative reimagining of the management and use of Satsop Center.

Through this process, D5 Recreation, a locally owned business and the concessionaire who operates the neighboring Coho Campground, was identified as the operator for Satsop Center Campground. Development of other uses at the Satsop Center are currently underway with D5 Recreation as well.

A historic site, the Satsop Center area dates to 1927 when the Forest Service first identified timber sales in this area. Since then, operations at the site have varied including the construction of multiple facilities, including the Guard Station, that was used as a work center, administrative site, and provided lodging for Forest Service employees and partners.
