Under the authority of the Act of Congress dated June 4, 1897, as amended (16 U.S.C. 551 ), and pursuant 10 the Secretary of Agriculture's Regulations set forth as 36 CFR Part 261, Subpart B (36 CFR 261.SO(a) and (b) acts and omissions are prohibited in the Charles C. Deam Wilderness Area of Ihe Hoosier National Forest, located within the State of Indiana.

  1. Possessing or using a motor vehicle or motorized equipment except as authorized by Federal law or regulation. [36 CFR 261.55 (c)J
  2. Possessing or using a saddle, pack, or animal except on trails posted or designated for horse use. [36 CFR 261 .55 (c)J
  3. Entering or using a site when it is posted closed. [36 CFR 261.57 (a)]
  4. Possessing or using a wagon, cart, bicycle, or other wheeled items or vehicle. [36 CFR 261.57 (h)J
  5. Camping within 100 feet of ponds, lakes, trails, or streams accept in designated sites. [36 CFR 261.58 {e)]
  6. Occupying or using a campsite, trail, or other area by a group of more than ten (10) people within sight or sound of another group. [36 CFR 261.58 (f)]
  7. Discharging a firearm, air rifle. or gas gun except during State of Indiana designated hunting seasons. Target shooting or practicing, including paintball is prohibited year-round. [36 CFR 261.58 (m))

THESE RFSTRICTIONS ARE NECESSARY TO PROTECT NATIONALFOREST PROPERTY/RESOURCES. THEY AREIN ADDITION TO THE GENERAL PROHIBITIONS SET FORTH IN 36 CFR PART 261. THJS ORDER WILL TERMINA TE WHEN AMENDED OR WITHDRAWN BY A TERMINATION ORDER OF THE FOREST SUPERVISOR.

Pursuant to Ihe provisions of 36 CFR 261 .SO(e), the following persons are exempt from this order:

  1. Persons with permit specifically authorizing the otherwise prohibited act or omission (36 CFR 261.SO(e)(I )); and,
  2. Any Federal. State, or line officer, or member of any organized rescue or firefighting force in the performance of an official duty (36 CFR 261.50(e)(4).

Violation of the prohibitions in this Order are punishable by 11 6ne of not more than $5,000.00 for an individual or $10,000.00 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than six (6) months, or both (16 USC 551, 18 USC 3559 and 3571).
