Forest Order

Pursuant to the Secretary of Agriculture's Regulation 36 CFR 261.50 (a), the following acts and omissions are prohibited on the Hoosier National Forest located within Brown, Crawford, Dubois, Jackson, Lawrence, Martin, Monroe, Orange, and Perry Counties, Indiana. 

  1. It is prohibited to go into or be upon any area that is posted closed for the protection of a threaten, endangered or Regional Foresters listed sensitive species. 36 CFR 261.53 (a). 

THESE RESTRICTIONS ARE NECESSARY TO PROTECT ENDANGERED, THREATENED, OR SENSITIVE SPECIES. THEY ARE IN ADDITION TO THE GENERAL PROHIBITIONS SET FORTH IN 36 CFR PART 261. AREAS WILL BE POSTED ON THE GROUND. 

Pursuant to the provision of 36 CFR 261.50 (e), the following persons are exempt from this order: 

  1. Persons with a pennit from the authorized Forest Service officer specially authorizing an otherwise prohibited act or omission.
  2. 2. Any Federal, State, or local officer or member of an organized rescue or firefighting force working in the performance of an official duty. 

Violations of these prohibitions set forth above is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual and $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than six (6) months, or both (16 U.S.C 551, 18 U.S.C. 3559, and 3571).
