Ozark Trail - Current River Section

The Current River Section of the Ozark Trail, a 30 mile section, passes through a myriad of publicly owned lands, best viewed from the trail atop Stegal Mountain, the highest point in the area. The trail wanders through Peck Ranch Conservation Area. High bluffs, shut ins and igneous glades provide attractive scenery. 

9 Miles of the 30 miles of the Current River Section of the Ozark Trail is located on the Mark Twain National Forest which runs from the Hwy 60 Trailhead north to Peck Ranch.

General Information

Camping

Dispersed camping is allowed along the trail. There are no toilets, no structures, no trash cans, no treated water, and no fire grates available.

There are no fees.

  • Hiking is allowed.
  • No biking or horseback use on this section of trail
  • No motorized vehicles are permitted on any section of the Ozark Trail.
  • Camp at least 100 feet from the trail, treat all water used, bury human waste and pack out all trash.

The Ozark Trail is 230-miles between Onondaga Cave State Park and the western edge of the Mark Twain National Forest. The trail is multi-use for hiking/backpacking, biking and equestrians in 13 sections, all of which are on the Mark Twain National Forest.
