Survey Records

Forest Survey Information is available online and downloadable for free.  Below is a list of folders and the information they contain. Remember to refer to the Index within the folders, when applicable.

Available Survey Data Types

CADASTRALS

Maps, by township, depicting the corners monumented to Forest Service standards, lines marked to Forest Service standards, year of survey and/or maintenance (two-digit year is viewable by zooming in).  Known corners that are not monumented with a Forest Service monument, but that have been established/restored by private surveyors are also noted.

CCC NOTES

Corner restorations completed by Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) crews in the late 1930’s.  These are organized by township, and each township has in index, depicting corners restored.

CORNER SEARCH

Copies from field books of corners searched for by Forest Service crews, and in some cases, monumented, during the 1970’s and 1980’s.  Organized by township, these are indexed using the Forest Service standard alpha-numeric numbering system identifier for each corner.  View the index to determine what corners were searched for.

COUNTY SURVEYOR PLATS

These are transcribed copies of county surveyor plats.  Organized by section and township.

INDEX TO PLATS

Scanned images of the hard copy (index card) index for all of the plats on file at the Shawnee National Forest.  The index is organized by section, township and range.  Each index card gives an alpha-numeric identifier for each plat.  Plats are filed in the “PLAT” folder.  The plat folder contains folders A thru D, corresponding to the alpha-numeric identifier.

PLATS

These are all of the plats on file, and include both Forest Service surveys and surveys completed for adjoining private parties. Refer to INDEX TO PLATS above for a complete listing of what is included in our Plat records. To request a plat, first note the plat folder (folder A, B, C or D) and it's corresponding alpha-numeric identifier of the plat you want; then email Lance Brown, Shawnee National Forest Land Surveyor and include this information in your email. Most plats consist of large electronic files; you may be asked to download your request from a shared folder.

LAND STATUS

Pdf files of the land status maps.  These maps identify Forest Service parcels with an individual number, similar to a county assessor’s parcel id number.  These are organized by township and range.

MONUMENT RECORDS

Copies of monument records/corner certificates for corners monumented with a Forest Service monument.  They are organized by township, and utilize an index with an alpha-numeric system for corner identification.  Some of the non Forest Service, private monument records are archived also.

The success of this program relies heavily on information supplied by surveyors working in the private sector.  If you have question about this database, or survey information that would be useful for this electronic survey record, please contact Shawnee National Forest Land Surveyor Lance Brown at 618-253-1039.
