Biking

Opportunities for bicycling in southern Illinois is growing. Bicyclists who wish to venture off paved routes and enjoy wooded paths will love the many trails within the Shawnee National Forest.

In the Shawnee National Forest bicycling is authorized on the following:

  • Forest Service Roads
  • Lake Glendale Trail System (adjoins Dixon Springs State Park trail system)
  • River to River Trail Segment at Cedar Lake
  • Kinkaid Lake - Trail #382 (from Crisenberry Dam to Hidden Cove Trailhead)

Another popular bike path is the 45-mile long Tunnel Hill State Trail management by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

E-Biking

E-bikes are allowed only on roads open to motor vehicles. E-bikes are not allowed off-road. Nor are they authorized on the Lake Glendale-Dixon Springs trail system or on Shawnee National Forest trails because they are considered a motorized vehicle.
