Gravelly Creek Fishing Site Group Picnic Site

A large day use, picnic area consisting of a large shelter with a fire ring and picnic tables, two other picnic table sites, and two outhouses, nestled among a large, older second growth stand of spruce, hemlock, and cedar. Gravelly Creek, Falls Creek, and the Thorne River meet near the day use area, providing enjoyment and recreation for all ages. This is one of the favorite spots for fishing access to Gravelly Creek and the Thorne River and provides excellent fishing opportunities. There is a short ADA accessible trail from the paved parking area to the picnic sites and river. Special Features: Sitka black-tailed deer and black bear inhabit the area, along with other small fur bearers. Waterfowl, seabirds, bald eagles and other birds may be observed. The popularity of this picnic area lies in the accessibility to the Thorne River for fishing. Four species of salmon, rainbow and cutthroat trout, Dolly Varden, char, and spring and fall runs of steelhead occur in the Thorne River. Fly and drift fishing are effective in stream riffles and pools. Wild steelhead and some resident species are fragile in many waters throughout the area. Catch-and-release fishing for specific species is enforced throughout the area.
