The 11,000 mile ocean shoreline of the Tongass provides ample opportunities for visitors to explore and enjoy the Forest’s many beaches and rocky tidepools. The extensive coastline varies dramatically throughout the Tongass, from the rocky wave-wracked outer coast of Kruzof Island to the tranquil inlets of Misty Fjords and the pounding surf on the long sand beaches near Yakutat. While the ocean’s wonders can be discovered by walking on any public beach, these links highlight some of the easily accessed areas on the Forest for sand play and tidepooling.
