Comments: Fort Valley Exp. Forest, Ariz. May 1925. "Stump patch" adjoining No. 196623. Seedlings started here under the trees in even greater numbers than in the openings but they died out before the trees were removed. Logging in 1923-24. The area as a whole was fully stocked with mature timber, poles, and advance reproduction before cutting. Since cutting, it presents the aspect of alternate patches of reproduction, groups of poles, and bare patches (when tree groups were felled). These bare patches occupy from 1/4 to 1/2 of the total area. Seed trees must be left to restock them. Brush mostly piled and burned. G.A. Pearson
