Comments: Coconino Sample Plot S5; 1913, 1928, 1959. Taken from N. W. corner, strip 1, Plot S5II (E). Area fenced in 1919. Shows fine stand of seedlings in old top slash, especially in rear. Man stands in center of seedling-count strip. Seedlings here are about 3' tall. Soil is deep, with good humus content. Slash has practically all disappeared. Note how much thriftier and taller are, in general, the seedlings along the prostrate snag than they are in the dense grass in foreground. See La-126 (1959). See also DJN-90
