| Comments: | Ponderosa pine 2-year seedlings mechanically injured to simulate grazing. Injury 7/30/1929; left to right, as followes. (1) normal; (2) upper two-thirds of current season's growth cut off; (3) all of current year's growth removed, leaving a few basal leaves and portions of secondary leaves; (4) entire crown removed, leaving no leaves except occasional promary leaves, most of which normally shed at end of first season. Note top growth on #2 from the left. Thiss took place in late summer after injury. Those injured in September (#245626) show very little such growth. |
