Comments: Timberstand improvement in ponderosa pine thicket. In usual practice the largest pole at right would be pruned as a crop tree. In order to maintain rapid growth, the saplings within a radium of 6-8 ft must be cut. Another practice would leave the large tree until it becomes large enought to make a log. By that time the saplings underneath would be depleted.
