| Comments: | 1/2 mi. N of Prairie RR siding 7 mi. S of Ashfork, AZ. Typical ringgrowth habit of Muhlenbergia torreyi; when in abundance typical of blue grama grassland in deteriorated condition. Talbot concurs that this is characteristic growth habit of plant and not due to soil removal from outside periphery of plant causing artificial drought and dying out of plant on inside of ring. Can be checked by (1) moving plants to greenhouse and checking growth habit. (2) Check by paired plots along RR right of way by paired samples. |
