Four Rivers Lottery

The Main Salmon, Middle Fork of the Salmon, Selway, and Snake-Hells Canyon Rivers, located in central Idaho and eastern Oregon, offer a broad range of floating and recreation opportunities. These exciting rivers provide scenery, steep canyons, wildlife, and whitewater thrills for thousands of river runners each summer during the floating season.

Non-commercial permits to float these four rivers (the Main Salmon, Middle Fork of the Salmon, Selway, and Snake-Hells Canyon) are allocated through a computerized lottery system. Applications for the upcoming floating season must be submitted online through Recreation.gov. Hard copy applications are not accepted.

The application period is December 1 through January 31 each year.

Email notices will be sent to all applicants after the lottery has been run in early February. Applicants will need to log into their profile to see the results of their lottery application(s).

CONFIRMATION DEADLINE is MARCH 15 for all successful lottery applicants! To confirm your reservation, log into your profile and accept your reservation by March 15th. Successful applicants will no longer receive a paper packet of confirmation materials. Boaters will need to access the respective river’s information webpage for details about equipment requirements, regulations and trip information. The website will be listed on the confirmation letter that will be emailed once the reservation is confirmed.

Cancelled, declined, revoked and unconfirmed dates

Starting February 14, 2018, any declined, cancelled or revoked lottery control season launch dates for the Wild Main Salmon, Hells Canyon-Snake & Middle Fork of the Salmon Rivers will be released through the www.recreation.gov website. A two-hour booking window will open daily at 9 a.m. Mountain Time (8 a.m. Pacific, 10 a.m. Central, 11 a.m. Eastern Time). There will also be a “CAPTCHA” requirement (verifies users are not robots) when reserving a launch date. Available dates will reserved on a first-come, first-served basis.

Selway River dates that are cancelled or declined will not be released until March 16.

Unconfirmed lottery dates for all four rivers will be released on March 16 at 9 a.m. Mountain Time during that day’s booking window.

To see if there are any available launches, go to www.recreation.gov website. Boaters can also call 1-877-444-6777 to check for availability.

When a reservation is cancelled, it will show as an “A” on the availability grid. The cancellation cannot be reserved until the booking window opens (9 a.m. Mountain Time). If the launch is not reserved during the two-hour booking window, the cancellation will be held until the next day’s booking window.

Boaters are encouraged to check for an “A” on the availability grid if there is a launch date that has become available. Cancellations may also show up during the booking window that could be reserved.

To check for available launch dates visit www.recreation.gov and type Selway River in the "Where" box or call 1-877-444-6777.
