Visitor Maps and Guides
Planning your next adventure or next visit? The Bitterroot National Forest offers a variety of map products to guide you along the way.
Visitor Maps

The Bitterroot National Forest offers a set of Visitor maps, one for the north half of the Forest (includes the Stevensville and Darby Ranger Districts) and one for the south half (includes the Sula and West Fork Ranger Districts). These maps are printed with topographic lines at a scale of 1" to a mile and combine general forest and travel opportunity information such as roads, trails, trailheads, streams, rivers, lakes, and major peaks, as well as recreation facilities such as campgrounds, fishing access sites, cabin rentals, and picnic areas. A vicinity map is provided to assist you in determining which map you need.
Bitterroot National Forest maps, as well as many other National Forest, Grassland, and Wilderness maps, may be purchased at your local forest office or online at the USGS Store.
Motor Vehicle Use Maps

Motor Vehicle Use Maps (MVUM) are free to the public and highlight the routes on the Forest where motor vehicles are allowed to travel. MVUM maps can be picked up at your local Forest Service office or can be downloaded to your smartphone through the Avenza Map store. To view a MVUM Map online, click on a link below. These are large files, so they may take several minutes to load.

Topographic Maps

Topographic Maps provide the greatest level of detail and only cover small portions of a forest. These maps are available to purchase from the US Geological Survey, many individual forests, and many retail outlets. To view these maps online go to the USGS National Geological Map Database.
Firewood cutting maps

To make sure you are in a woodcutting area, get a firewood map at any Bitterroot National Forest Service office or download a North half or South half firewood cutting map here.
Avenza

If you own a mobile device such as an iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch or Android (4.0.3 or newer), you can take the Bitterroot National Forest MVUMs with you.
