Volunteers

A variety of volunteer opportunities may be available at any one of our Bitterroot National Forest Service offices. To search for nationwide volunteer opportunities, go to volunteer.gov.

Become a Volunteer!

Opportunities range from office settings to field going.  The types of work you can do with the Forest Service are varied.  Volunteers can work on a part-time or recurring basis.  Training may be provided depending on the job.

Below is the Volunteer Application form which you may print out and submit if you are interested in becoming a volunteer.  Please return this form to Tod McKay at the Bitterroot National Forest Supervisor's Office, 1801 North 1st, Hamilton, MT  59840 or email the form to tod.mckay@usda.gov.

For additional information regarding the Volunteer Program please contact Tod McKay, Volunteer Coordinator, at 406-363-7122.

Visit the National Forest Service website to learn more about volunteering opportunities nationwide and highlights of volunteers.

Volunteer with a Partner!

Volunteers are an important part of caring for the land and serving the people on the Bitterroot National Forest. We couldn't do our mission without our Partners! To find a partner group you are interested in volunteering with, visit our list of Partners.

Volunteer as a Campground Host!

The Bitterroot National Forest has many developed campgrounds situated in beautiful settings.  Campground hosts play an important role in assisting with the management of these beautiful areas and working with the public.  Camp hosts are rewarded with a place to stay during the summer, lasting friendships, and a sense of pride in the work accomplished in making the developed sites safe and communicating with the public about our National Forests.

For those interested in campground hosting opportunities please return the Campground Host Volunteer Application to Erica Strayer at the Darby Ranger District, P.O. Box 388, Darby, MT  59829 or email the form to erica.strayer@usda.gov.
