The Tangle Lakes Archaeological District contains more than 600 sites, the oldest of which date to about 12,000 years ago. The sites provide evidence of ancient hunters using an ice-dominated landscape. Stone tools and an occasional hearth were found at most of the early sites in the Tangle Lakes District.
