JUNEAU, Alaska – Dec. 18, 2024 – Artists from around the world are encouraged to apply to the Alaska Region’s Voices of the Wilderness Program – an opportunity for creatives who are passionate about capturing the natural world to spend the summer 2025 season creating work inspired by the Alaskan wilderness while actively engaging in stewardship projects.
Applications for the program are being accepted now through March 2. To download an application, visit: http://www.fs.usda.gov/goto/votw.
This year’s program features ten wilderness sites and includes areas managed by the USDA Forest Service, National Park Service, and U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, all of whom sponsor the Alaska-based program.
Selected artists are partnered with a wilderness specialist to participate in research or stewardship projects while creating art in unique places in the state. An artist’s final artwork is often used in environmental, educational, or promotional materials to help others learn more about the value of these wild public lands.
Residency is open to art professionals in all media, including:
- Visual (two and three dimensional: photographers, sculptors, painters, etc.)
- Audio (musicians, singers, composers)
- Film (video/filmmakers)
- Performance artists
- Writers (poets, fiction, essays, storytellers)
Apply now to experience Alaska’s wild spaces and use creativity to share art inspired by Alaska’s National Forests and other public lands - where nature, people, and tradition come together.
