All types of hunting and trapping in Shawnee National Forest follows state regulations set by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
Special Illinois hunting regulations apply to Oakwood Bottoms Greentree Reservoir and other popular waterfowl hunting areas within the Shawnee National Forest.
The site specific flood compartment map of Oakwood Bottoms is updated annually and when flood compartment conditions change within the hunting season.

- Oakwood Bottoms Designated Waterfowl Refuge Area - The designated waterfowl refuge is closed 14 days prior to waterfowl hunting season to the end of waterfowl hunting season in the southern central zone. No walking access or hunting is permitted.
