Advisory Committees

The Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area is part of the Mt. Hood Willamette RAC.  This advisory comittee reviews project proposals for the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, Mt. Hood National Forest, and Willamette National Forest and adjacent lands.

Recognizing that revenue from timber harvest has been sharply curtailed during recent years, Congress signed Public Law 110-343 on October 3, 2008 (commonly known as Payments to States). The Law addresses funds received on Federal land, which have historically been shared with counties. These funds have been used for schools and roads. For each year 2001-2006, the law allows counties to receive a payment from the Federal government based on the average of their top 3 years (1986-1999) of payments from Federal lands.

The Act established the committees consisting of 15 local citizens representing a broad array of backgrounds, interests, and experiences. The Committee recommends projects to the Forest Service to be conducted on Forest Service system lands, or that will benefit resources on Forest Service system lands.
