Recreation Passes & Permits

*The Rio Grande National Forest does not have a general entrance fee, the forest honors Interagency Passes at all fee campgrounds. 

Interagency Recreation Passes (America the Beautiful) 

National interagency passes offer discounts, free entrances, and cover some standard amenity fees at recreation sites with the following federal agencies: U.S. Forest Service, National Park Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Land Management, and Bureau of Reclamation.

*Buy passes online at the US Geological Service or at your nearest National Forest office.

  • 4th Grade Interagency Pass

    (Free)  The 4th Grade Pass is part of the Every Kid in a Park program, an effort to introduce America’s youth to the outdoors. This pass is free and  given to every fourth grader who obtains a ‘paper pass’ from the Every Kid in a Park website linked below.

  • Interagency Annual Pass

    ($80) This pass is valid for one year from date of issue for entrance or standard amenity fees. No other discounts are provided.

  • Interagency Senior Lifetime Pass

    ($80) This is a lifetime pass (valid for life) available to U.S. citizens or permanent residents who are 62 years of age or older. The Interagency Senior Pass holders receive entrance or standard amenity fees, and may receive up to a 50% fee discount at campgrounds, highly developed sites, swimming, boat launches and for specialized interpretive services. Senior annual passes can be turned in to receive a $20 discount per annual pass when purchasing the lifetime pass.

  • Interagency Senior Annual Pass

    ($20) This pass is available to U.S. citizens or permanent residents who are 62 years of age or older. In addition to the benefits provided by the Interagency Annual Pass, the Interagency Senior Pass holders recieve entrance or standard amenity fees, and may receive up to a 50% fee discount at campgrounds, highly developed sites, swimming, boat launches and for specialized interpretive services. It is valid for 12 months from the date purchased.

  • Interagency Access Pass

    (Free) This pass is a lifetime pass available to U.S. citizens or permanent residents who have a permanent disability. An access pass holder receives entrance or standard amenity fees, and may receive up to a 50% fee discount at campgrounds, highly developed sites, swimming, boat launches and for specialized interpretive services.

  • Interagency Annual Military Pass

    (Free) Available for active military personnel and their dependents, also available for veterans. This pass provides for entrance or standard amenity fees. Valid for 12 months.

  • Interagency Volunteer Pass

    The pass can be issued free of charge to a U.S. citizen or permanent resident who individually accrues 500 volunteer hours. Work with your local forest volunteer coordinator to earn this pass. This pass provides for entrance or standard amenity fees.
