Recreation Passes & Permits

Santa Fe National Forest honors the five types America the Beautiful Interagency Passes.

All the passes are honored nationwide at all Forest Service, National Park Service, Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Reclamation, and US Fish & Wildlife Service sites charging entrance or standard amenity fees. All types of passes admit pass holder and any accompanying passengers in a private non-commercial vehicle. At per-person fee areas, all passes admit holders and up to 3 persons. Persons 15 and younger are admitted free of charge.

  • Annual Pass

    Pass covers the pass owner and three (3) accompanying adults age 16 and older at sites where Per Person entrance fees are charged. No fee for admittance of children 15 and under.Good for one year from month of purchase. $80 for one year.

  • Senior Pass

    You must be 62 years of age or older to purchase. Passes are $20 for one year or $80 for a lifetime pass. An Interagency Annual Pass can be used at many different federal lands across the nation.

  • Military Pass

    Free annual pass if you are active military. Includes dependents. 

    Free lifetime pass for Gold Star Families with a valid Gold Star Family Voucher or US military veterans with a valid, veteran ID.

  • Access Pass

    People who are living with disabilities can request this $10 lifetime pass. It can be used at many different federal lands across the nation.

  • 4th Graders

    This free pass is available to 4th Graders, 4th Grade Teachers, home school and free-choice learners 10 years of age. Good from Sept. to Aug. of your 4th Grade school year.

  • Volunteer Pass

    The Volunteer Pass annual pass is awarded to those individuals who volunteer 250 hours at one or more recreation sites managed by five Federal agencies as a way to say "thank you"!

Additional Information about Recreation Fees

The Forest Service waives recreation fees at most-day use sites on lands managed by the agency. Participation by concession-operated sites may vary.

These include:

  • Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
  • President's Day
  • National Get Outdoors Day
  • Juneteenth
  • National Public Lands Day
  • Veterans Day
