Trail Maps

Two trail maps are available; each covering either the east or west side of the Shawnee National Forest.  Trail maps are available for purchase at our offices as well as through the mail by contacting the Friends of the Shawnee. The map costs $12 and is printed on weather-resistant paper.  The trail maps feature topographic contour lines, trail numbers, trailhead locations, points of interest and special area regulations. A portion of these map sales supports efforts to improve Shawnee National Forest trails.

River to River Trail Maps

The 160-mile River to River Trail spans southern Illinois from the Ohio River to the Mississippi River. It features unique landscapes and cultural remnants from the past, such as old homesteads, cemeteries and Native American sites. It takes about two weeks to hike the trail, making it popular among long distance hikers. Visitors can cover portions of the trail or the entire length.
