Other Permits
Research Applications For the Superior National Forest and Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness
- All research activities on the Superior National Forest or within the BWCAW must submit a research application.
- Applications take approximately one month to process, at minimum. Research applications for within the BWCAW typically take longer to process.
- Research within the BWCAW requires an entry point permit reservation via recreation.gov.

Research Permit Applications:
Transportation
Permits are required for:
- Use of roads not open to the general public for motorized use.
- Use of roads/driveways across National Forest System lands to access private property.
- Snowplowing Forest roads.
Other Superior NF Permits
Permits are required for other uses such as electrical easements, utility lines, oil and gas pipelines and monitoring wells.
