Epic Adventures

The Superior NF contains over 445,000 acres of surface water, or about 12 percent of the Forest area. There are almost 2,000 lakes at least 10 acres in size; over 1,300 miles of major streams supporting cold water fisheries; and over 950 miles of major streams supporting warm water fisheries. In addition there are over 2,000 miles of trails for hiking, hunting, riding and more.

Dark Sky Adventures

Stars in the sky

There are many opportunities for stargazing within or around the Superior National Forest. As an attestation to the stargazing throughout the Forest, the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) was designated a dark sky sanctuary in September 2020 by DarkSky International.

Terrestrial Wildlife: Bird Watching - Songbird

Whether you are a novice or an expert, the Superior is a great place to hone your birding skills.  With a list of 225 bird regularly seen in the Forest including 163 which nest here, you can see why it has been labeled a Globally Important Bird Area by the National Audubon Society.
