Forest Road Improvement Projects
The Superior National Forest will temporarily close sections of National Forest System roads for public and contractor safety while construction projects occur. Additionally, other road projects will cause intermittent delays while culverts are replaced, and ditch work is completed. See attached roads list, maps, and press release for more information.
September 2, 2026 Update
- Forest Road (FR) 459-North Grassy Road to Mudro Access: Culvert construction is scheduled to start on October 1. The Mudro Entry Point parking lot will not be accessible for entering or leaving starting October 1.
- Forest Road 471 Nigh Creek Road: Road reconstruction project beginning Sept. 7– culvert installation, ditching and gravel work. Expect delays up to one hour. This road is the access to BWCAW Entry Point 10-Norway Trail. Work estimated to be completed by early October.
- FR 152–South Brule River Bridge Replacement: Work is a few weeks out to completion. Access past the bridge will be maintained throughout the project.
- FR 313–Shoe Lake Road Reconstruction: Work will begin following bridge replacement with gravel hauling, followed by culvert installation. Anticipate multi-day closures during culvert installation, which could September-October as work allows.
