SOPA Reports
The Schedule of Proposed Actions (SOPA) contains a list of proposed
actions for Ouachita National Forest that will soon begin or are currently undergoing environmental
analysis and documentation. It provides information so that you can become
aware of and indicate your interest in specific proposals. We encourage your
early and ongoing involvement in any proposals of interest to you.
The Forest Service proposes to promote resiliency to insect and disease infestations through the implementation of thinning treatments to approximately 78 acres.
The Forest Service proposes to authorize Arkansas Electric Cooperative Corporation (AECC) to install approximately 5.79 miles of underground fiber optic cable on National Forest System (NFS) lands within the existing US 71 Highway corridor.
Installation and maintenance of overhead powerlines, clearing and maintenance of associated Right-of-Way corridor (approximately 204 feet long and 40 feet wide.
The Oklahoma Ranger Districts propose to implement management activities to meet the needs for the Big Cedar VMP Area. The intent of these activities is to move the area toward desired conditions described in the 2005 Revised Forest Plan.

The East Mill Project Area includes approximately 8,060 acres of Forest Service lands in Scott County, Arkansas. The intent of these activities is to move the project area toward desired conditions established in the Ouachita National Forest Plan.
The Oklahoma Ranger Districts propose to implement management activities to meet the needs of the East of the Lake Project Area and to move the project area toward desired conditions described in the Revised Forest Plan.
The Poteau-Cold Springs Ranger District proposes to implement management activities such as timber harvest, fuels treatments, silviculture treatments, wildlife treatments, and transportation treatments within the Freedom EMU.
BLM has requested FS consent for a coal lease by application (LBA). The FS has a consent with stipulations decision to make on the LBA. The BLM has a leasing decision to make. Connected actions both on and off NFS lands will be analyzed in this EIS.
Treatments would occur on .25-mile of the trail (from bridge to overlook) and include removing some vegetation and all deteriorating structures. The new access route will be built and maintained to look and appear natural to the area.

Installation of three sections (approximately 13 miles) of fiber optic cable within the Arkansas State Highway 27 right-of-way that crosses the Ouachita National Forest.
The Mena-Oden Ranger District proposes to implement management activities to meet the needs for Muddy Creek Project Area. The intent of these activities is to move the area toward desired conditions described in The Revised Forest Plan.
Construction of a Forest Service access road off of PK 48. The road would cross county owned lands. Forest Service is currently seeking an easement to allow permanent access.
Pine Telephone requests authorization to install fiber optic cable on the Ouachita NF along existing roads. Bore pits, pedestals, and underground fiber optic cable would be installed within a ten-foot wide right of way.
Robertson Creek Project Area includes approximately 12,621 acres of Forest Service lands in Scott County, Arkansas. The intent of these activities is to move the project area toward desired conditions established in the Ouachita National Forest Plan.
The Mena-Oden Ranger District proposes to implement management activities to meet the needs for Shack Creek Rock Creek Project Area. The intent of these activities is to move the area toward desired conditions described in The Revised Forest Plan.
Southwest Arkansas Telecommunications and Technology, Inc. requests authorization to install approximately 2 miles of fiber optic cable along existing roads on the Ouachita National Forest near Tom, Oklahoma.
Private landowner is requesting continuued access to private property by National Forest Lands. The road has been the sole traditional access to this property.
To better serve the public, the Forest has migrated to an electronic mailing platform. This project provides the public access to subscribe to electronic mailing lists, giving them direct control over the information they receive.
The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission is requesting a special use permit for an existing building used as a wildlife managment area workcenter part of a memorandum of understanding with the Forest Service.
Arkansas State Parks, Heritage, and Tourism-Division of State Parks (ASP) is requesting issuance of a Special Use Permit (SUP) for an area of National Forest Service (NFS) Lands that would include trail and recreation related infrastructure.
