McCart - Johnson Peak Trailhead

McCart - Johnson Peak Trailhead has adequate parking for 6-8 vehicles. Facilities include a stock ramp and hitching rail. This trailhead accesses the McCart Lookout Tower and the Anaconda-Pintler Wilderness.

Access to Anaconda Pintler Wilderness Area

Food Storage Required: Food Storage Order Bitterroot National Forest

Weed Seed Free feed is required on all national forest land: Weed Free Forage & Mulch Products Regional Order

Please practice Leave No Trace Principles when visiting forest land.

Pack it in Pack it out, no garbage service provided.  

No overnight camping. 

Open year round, snow dependent.

Day use. Overnight parking only allowed if not occupying vehicle.

Wilderness Trailhead, No Motorized Use within the Anaconda Pintler Wilderness Area.

No fees are required for this site

Pets must be under control at all times. Leashes recommended to prevent user and wildlife conflicts.

Properly dispose of pet waste bags (pack in/out).

Directions

From Sula, MT head northwest 0.2 miles on Highway 93. Turn northeast (right) onto East Fork Rd. (county road #472). Go approximately 15 miles and turn south (right) onto Forest Service Road #435 (Johnson Peak Trail). Travel 5.5 miles to the trailhead.
