Ward Mountain Trail # 208

The Ward Mountain Trail # 208 begins at National Forest Road #701 (Roaring Lion Road), gains 4,800 feet of elevation as it climbs 6.3 miles to the peak of Ward Mountain. At many points this trail offers extraordinary views of the Bitterroot valley looking East. The trail is open for the following uses: motorcycle trail riding, mountain biking and hiking

Camping is limited to 16 consecutive days: Camping Restrictions Regional Order

Weed Seed Free feed is required on all national forest land: Weed Free Forage Order for Northern Region

Campfires allowed, dependent upon seasonal fire restrictions.   

Practice good trail etiquette by staying on designated paths, yielding to uphill users, and giving space to others.

Pets must be under control.  Leashes are recommended to avoid user and wildlife conflicts. Properly dispose of animal waste bags. Do not put animal waste bags in vault toilets

Motorized vehicle travel is limited to Motorcycles

Parking

Parking is limited to roadside pullouts. However, more parking is available at the nearby Sawtooth Trailhead. 

Directions

From Hamilton, MT travel 4 miles south on Highway 93. Turn west (right) on to Roaring Lion Rd and follow approximately 2.5 miles. Trailhead is located on the south (left) side of the road.
