Trapper Creek Trailhead

Trapper Creek Trailhead offers access to Trapper Creek Trail #598 and the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness. It has adequate parking for both cars and trailers, stock unloading ramps and hitch rails. There are no other facilities at this site. 

General Information

Food Storage Required: Bitterroot National Forest Food Storage Order

Weed Seed Free feed is required on all national forest land: Weed Free Forage Order for Northern Region

Please practice Leave No Trace Principles when visiting forest land.

Pack it in Pack it out, no garbage service provided.  

No overnight camping. 

Open year-round, snow dependent. 

Day use. Overnight parking only allowed if not occupying vehicle. 

Trapper Creek Trail enters Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness at approximately mile 2 

  • Leave No Trace

Prohibited uses include: 

  • Motorized equipment and mechanized travel including e-bikes
  • No Drones
  • No cutting switchbacks

Pets must be under control at all times.  Leashes recommended to prevent user and wildlife conflicts.

Properly dispose of pet waste bags (pack in/out)

Directions

From Darby, MT travel 4.3 miles south on Highway 93. Turn southwest (right) onto West Fork Rd. and travel approximately 6.4 miles. Turn north (right) onto Main Trapper Creek Rd. and go 0.5 miles, take the left fork National Forest Road #5628 and travel 2.6 miles to the end and the trailhead.

Travel Considerations

Access may be difficult in winter.

Parking is available for passenger vehicles and trailers. This site also has hitching rails and a stock ramp.
