Magee Picnic Site

The Magee Picnic Site is located near the old historic Magee Ranger Station, built in 1932.  The Ranger's Cabin is available as a rental. the picnic site features 3 picnic units, potable water, and a pit toilet. There are numerous trail hiking opportunities nearby in the Independence Creek area.

Directions

Access 1: From Interstate Highway 90 (I-90) use Exit #43(Kingston); travel 24 miles North on Forest Highway #9 (two lane paved highway) to the Prichard Junction. Continue on Forest Road #208 (paved two-lane road) for 28 miles to the end of the pavement and the start of Forest Road #6310 (graveled one and one-half lane road with turnouts - watch for rocks and potholes). Travel 7 miles on road #6310 to the Magee Picnic Site. The approximate travel time from Coeur d'Alene on this route is 2 hours.

Access 2: From Coeur d'Alene River Ranger District (Fernan office) in Coeur d'Alene (I-90, Exit #15) drive east on County Road #208 (Fernan Lakeshore Road) for 5 miles; this road enters the Coeur d'Alene National Forest and climbs into the mountains on Forest Road #268, continue on Forest Road #612 (paved road from Fernan Saddle; turns to good quality two- land graveled road) and follow for 11 miles to Forest Road #209, past Honeysuckle Campground. Cross the bridge and turn right (South) on Road #209 (good quality two-lane graveled road) for 5 miles to it's junction with Forest Road #422. Turn left (North) and travel for 14 miles on Road #422 toward Magee Administrative Site. Road #422 is a fair quality graveled road that is mostly two-lane but narrows to one and one-half lanes with turnouts; go slow and use caution; the road is suitable for automobiles. Turn right at Forest Road #6310, the Magee Picnic Site will be on your left. The approximate travel time from Coeur d'Alene on this route is 1 3/4 hours.
