Smith Creek - Smith Ridge Trail #17
The Smith Creek – Smith Ridge Trail #17 is used to access the ridge between Cut-Off Peak and Triangulation Point. Once you reach the ridge, you will intersect with Smith Ridge Trail #18. From this intersection, you will head to the left and it will be approximately 5 miles (left) to Triangulation Point or 2 miles (right) to Cut-Off Peak.
Following the trail to Cut-Off Peak is a nice hike with great views of Smith Peak, the Canyon Creek Drainage, and Smith Creek Drainage.
The trail begins on the old roadbed and climbs gently for 0.3 miles before turning left off the old roadbed and climbing 15-25% grade toward the ridge. There is a small spring that crosses the trail before reaching the ridge, but this may only flow seasonally. Around the 0.75-mile mark, the trail reaches the ridge and then intersects with Trail #18. At the intersection, go to the right to head towards Cut-Off Peak. The trail will gently climb at 10-15% grade for about 2 miles to the peak.
