Indian Creek Trail #478

Description: This 3.6-mile single-track secondary trail connects the St. Joe River with Trail 284 Indian Peak. It follows Indian Creek and then climbs the divide separating the Indian and Red Ives drainages. Trail 478 forms an enjoyable loop trail with Trail 284 for all types of recreationists between Red Ives Ranger Station and the St. Joe River at Indian Creek. Sloughing of the tread on the side of some of the steeper slopes near the top and the switchbacks at the top of the trail are little more than small indentations on the steep slope. Trail 478 travels through a nice dark forest along the creek and often, you are the only one there. A few campsites exist.

Directions:

• Approximate driving time from Avery to the Trail 478 Indian Creek Trailhead on the St. Joe River is 55 minutes.
