Monture Guard Station Cabin

This facility is available only in the winter, and the area offers both motorized and non-motorized recreation opportunities. It is a completely restored ranger station facility with very comfortable heating, kitchen area, and refinished wood floors.

Current Conditions
Open December 1-April 14 annually. Reservations Required through Recreation.gov.

General Information

The cabin facilities include: kitchen utensils, skillets, pots, pans, plates, bowls, cups & glasses; propane range/oven (conventional home-style unit), small microwave, refrigerator; propane heater, large wooden table with 10 chairs, leather couch and loveseat with end tables, lamps and large area rug, office desk/chair, telephone for local and calling card calls only, 8 twin size cot/beds with mattress protector covering (all of which are located on the second floor via a narrow enclosed stairway), cleaning supplies such as broom/dustpan, mop, dust mop, vacuum cleaner, RV antifreeze for sink drain, fire extinguishers and smoke alarms, first aid kit located in kitchen. This cabin holds a maximum of 8 people. There is electricity throughout the cabin. The heat is provided by a propane heater. There is a standing, hand-operated water hydrant near the porch.

A parking area is available just before the bridge on the left (across from the entrance to the Monture Creek Campground area). Please remember this a multiple use area. Skiers, snowmobilers, and other winter recreationists use this area so it could be congested at times. From the parking area you can ski, snowshoe, or snowmobile up the snowmobile trail to the entrance of the Monture Guard Station. Enter through the gate that is staked open (wide enough for a snowmobile); proceed through the entrance directly to the cabin. The total distance from the parking area to the cabin is approximately 1 mile. The entrance to the cabin is on the back (east side) of the cabin - this is where you will find the combination lock for access into the cabin.
