Conejos Canyon Roads and Camping Restrictions
This special order restricts the vehicle use and parking and limits camping to designated areas on FSR# 250 along the Conejos River.

Pursuant to title 16 USC 551: 36 CFR 261.50(a) and 261.50(b): From September 28, 1992 until further notice, the following acts are prohibited on the described roads and. area of the Conejos Peak Ranger District, Rio Grande National Forest.
The area and roads covered by closure are shown on the attached map and begin where State Highway 17 crosses the Conejos River and follows the Conejos River up stream to the Platoro Reservoir Dam. The area covered by the order parallels the Conejos River, generally stopping on either side where the slopes become too steep for vehicular traffic.
Prohibited Acts
1. It is prohibited to possess or use motorized vehicles off Forest Development Roads open to public use. CFR 261.56
Forest Development Roads open to the public are designated with a number. Roads closed to public use, but which may be intermittently opened for Administrative purposes are gated and/or signed "Road Closed".
Exception - After November 15 snowmobiles operating on snow are authorized off roads and trails and on closed roads and trails except as specifically prohibited. Such use must not disturb wildlife.
2. Parking is restricted to within twenty-five (25) feet of open roads and designated parking areas only. Parking along road shoulders shall not impede the normal flow of traffic. 36 CFR 261.12(d) and 261.56.
3. Camping is prohibited except in developed campgrounds and designated sites. 36 CFR 261.58(e).
Pursuant to 36 CFR 261.50(e) the following persons are exempt from this order:
A. Persons with a permit specifically authorizing the otherwise prohibited act or omission.
B. Any Federal, State, or local officer or member of an organized rescue or fire fighting force in the performance of an official duty.
This order is in addition to the Rio Grande National Forest Travel Order.

Violation of these Regulations is punishable by a fine of up to $5,000 or imprisonment up to six months or both. 16 USC 551.
