Middle Fork Trail #783

The Middle Fork Trail is 8.4 miles long. It begins at Forest Road 744/Trail Head and ends at Forest Trail #784. The trail provides a direct route to Machin Lake via the Middle Fork of Saguache Creek. The upper section before the lake is boggy. Eroded steep sections require care for horse travel.

Fishing is available in Machin Lake and creeks, there is a waterfall and excellent scenery.

The trail is open for the following uses: Hiking, Horseback Riding, Fishing, and Viewing Scenery

Getting There

Directions

From Saguache, go 22 miles west on Hwy 114, then 19 miles west/northwest on Forest Road 750 (County Road NN14) and 17 miles south on Forest Road 787. From Gunnison, go east 7 miles to Highway 114, then south 24 miles to Forest Road 804, then south to BLM Road 3085, east to BLM Road 3088/Forest Road 787, then south 17 miles to campground.

Follow the 4x4 route, FR #744, 7 1/2 miles from Stonecellar CG along the Middle Fork to a corral. The trail leaves down the hill toward the creek and to the west.
