Permits
Before you plan an activity on the forest, please verify whether a permit is required.
Most National Forests and Grasslands are open, free of charge, for your use and enjoyment. Permits are not required for leisure recreational activities like hiking, mountain biking, fishing, horseback riding, etc. Common activities that may require a permit include firewood cutting, commercial activities, outfitter & guiding, filming, photography, large group gatherings, weddings, research, and cutting a Christmas tree. See below for details on how to obtain a permit for these activities.
Forest Product Permits
Forest Product permits include but are not limited to firewood, rocks, mushrooms, post-and-pole, transplants and Christmas trees.
Special Use Permits
Special use permits may be required for your commercial or non-commercial activity such as weddings, filming, photography, outfitters & guides, and commercial events.
