Special Uses - EAGLE-Net fiber optic line
The United States Forest Service proposes to issue a special use authorization to the Educational Access Gateway Learning Environment Network (EAGLE-Net) Alliance for the installation, operation, and maintenance of a fiber optic cable on National Forest System (NFS) lands along the US Highway 160 right-of-way (ROW) between South Fork and Durango, and the US Highway 550 ROW from Durango to the Tri-State Cascade Village Sub-Station. This proposed fiber optic line is one section of a larger statewide fiber optic network that is being installed for the purpose of better connecting unserved and underserved communities in southern Colorado with the Western Slope and Front Range by means of buried fiber optic cable, with emphasis on better connecting education, libraries, government, and health care facilities state-wide.
