Early Fall Prescribed Fires Planned

Carson National Forest fire managers will potentially move forward with several prescribed fires in the first half of fall 2025. The exact timing of each will depend on specific wind, weather, moisture conditions, available personnel/equipment and required approvals.

• Get Notified: Ignition notifications for each prescribed fire are typically released a few days in advance but could be as short as a day for smaller projects. Subscribe for ignition notices and more forest information. Announcements will also be posted to social media (Facebook, X) and New Mexico Fire Information.
• Prepare for Smoke: Use these tips to prepare, which are also useful during wildfire season.

When persistent rain or snow falls in mid to late fall, fire crews will pivot to pile burning. A list of locations will be released then.
