Volunteers

Collaborating with volunteers, either individuals or groups, provides the Carson National Forest with ongoing support in a variety of program areas. Some examples include

• trail maintenance (become an adopter)
• campground improvements
• archaeological site stewardship
• stream restoration
• wildlife counts

Projects are prioritized based on our funding, the urgency needs of the project, its complexity and the availability of Forest Service personnel to oversee it.

We make sure to tailor the volunteer experience to your interests. Forest Service employees are greatly appreciative, supportive and happy to teach and learn from volunteers.

The Carson National Forest has volunteers who’ve returned to annual projects for twenty or more years because the work is satisfying and meaningful—and they have a great time!

Flexibility is the name of the game. Volunteers can donate their time either full-time for several months, a few hours each week or contribute a one-time service. 

• College students may volunteer to earn college credits through an intern program, or to become familiar with Forest Service activities and core values.
• Many individuals have found that their volunteer time has provided valuable professional experience which may lead to jobs and careers in natural resources.
• Retirees often find that volunteering gives them a new opportunity to share their skills and give back to the community.
