Motor Vehicle Use Maps
Motor Vehicle Use Maps (MVUMs) show:
- Which routes (roads and motorized trails) are open to motor vehicle travel.
- What types of vehicles they are open to.
- What season they are open.
- What roads you can drive off—and how far you can go—for dispersed camping and/or big game retrieval.
Free published hard copies of the MVUM, which is the legal document-of-record, is available at forest offices, pending availability.
The MVUM is the key to understanding each district's motorized transportation system and can be used in conjunction with the visitor map to determine which roads are open, and how far you are allowed to drive off the road.

Free and downloadable MVUMs are available here and in Avenza, a free smartphone mapping app. The maps are georeferenced, meaning you can track your location in real-time when GPS is working properly.
