Cabresto Lake Campground

Surrounded by high peaks, this small campground of four semi-dispersed campsites at 9,500 feet overlooks Cabresto Lake from a level ridge.

5 miles northeast of Questa on Forest Road 134 then 2 miles north on Forest Service Road 134A.  The last 2 miles on Forest Road 134A are on a primitive road.

The campground shares the parking lot with the Lake Fork Trail, which takes visitors into the Latir Peak Wilderness.

Cabresto Lake is one of the few places in New Mexico where visitors might catch a brook trout.

Non-motorized boats are allowed on Cabresto Lake.

  • There is no hand launch location. The shore can be reached by traversing a steep slope from the parking area.
  • The largest size craft recommended are single person kayaks or inflatables.
